Moving In Moving Out
Moving In Moving Out
You will check into your Sophomore College housing between noon and 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31st at kiosks set up in front of Stern.
The most important advice for you to follow for moving in and moving out to your fall residence (on September 11) is TO PACK LIGHT! You will have to move whatever you bring to your fall residence without assistance, and that could mean multiple trips lugging your stuff across campus. EITHER put your stuff in storage for the summer or ship it to arrive after September 11th when you are in your fall residence.
(Note: Storage is considered a personal expense.) All Stanford residence staff, including SOCO residence staff, CANNOT accept any mail or packages during the duration of the program and WILL NOT accept financial responsibility for such packages.
IMPORTANT: BEDDING AND OTHER NECESSARY PERSONAL SUPPLIES ARE NOT PROVIDED BY THIS PROGRAM. BE SURE TO BRING THESE WITH YOU SINCE ACCESS TO STANFORD'S SUMMER STORAGE IS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM 9 A.M.-3:30 P.M. WEEKDAYS BY APPOINTMENT.
If you use summer storage, you should arrange for early retrieval only boxes that you will need during Sophomore College. Sophomore College students and staff can retrieve items from Stanford Student Storage 2009 between August 31 - September 18, 2009 by appointment (9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. weekdays); the early retrieval fee will be waived. Appointments for early placement and early retrieval may be made on-line. No same day appointments are possible, so remember to go on-line before you arrive on campus to make an appointment to retrieve your stored belongings. If requesting delivery of boxes, you must specify the date and exact location to deliver the boxes, and there is a charge of $15 per box. NOTE: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RETRIEVE STORED ITEMS ON MONDAY, 9/7, LABOR DAY. If you have any questions regarding student storage, there is an extensive FAQ section on the storage website, or you may also call 650-725-9143. This phone number is answered 24 hours a day. Go to http://cardinalmall.stanford.edu/CardinalMall/storage.aspx for current information on student storage on campus.
Being Informed
Although we simply have the same rules as during the academic year, reminding you here of university policies regarding dorms life means you are now properly informed.
- About your health…
-
As a regular Stanford student returning early for academic reasons, you are eligible to use Vaden Student Health Service for minor health problems. You should have your regular health insurance policy in place before you return so that you are covered for services not offered by Vaden.
-
- You’ve lived in dorms...
- ...so you know the drill. You are responsible for your key, damages, and only authorized students in your room. About keys --- you will pick up at a kiosk in front of Stern on August 31 when you arrive and you will return to a kiosk in front of Stern when you move to your fall residence on Friday, September 11 – and you MUST return your key to the kiosk during our move time of 8 a.m. to 12:00 noon or you will be charged a re-key fee in excess of $89. NO EXCEPTIONS.

- Room damage can be expensive!
- While charges for housing and food will be covered for you, you are responsible for the condition of the room assigned to you. You will be responsible for all damage, loss, and/or charges to the room. Any such damages will be charged to the individual student’s University bill, including any wall damage and carpet cleaning. The charge will depend on the extent of the damage to the wall or carpet and can be in the excess of $3,000. "Flipping" beds (changing the bed frame heights): Any flipped beds will need to be flipped back upon departure. The beds need to be at the lowest or middle frame setting otherwise there will be extra labor charges to the individuals in the room. The fee for housekeeping to adjust a bed can be in excess of $81, and charged to the individual student's University bill.

- Unauthorized occupancy is not a good idea, you and your unauthorized guest will be charged!
- If you occupy a room or residence without authorization before your scheduled move-in date, after your scheduled termination of occupancy date or at any time outside your contract dates, or allow an unauthorized individual to stay in your room, you are charged an unauthorized occupancy fee for each day or portion thereof until the space is completely vacated. Your room is not considered completely vacated until you remove all your belongings and return your key to the kiosks set up in front of Stern on September 11. If you have lost your key, you must inform the Stern Front Housing Desk immediately and there will be a re-key charge. You will be charged for your room until your Front Housing Desks knows that you have left your room. You may not remain as a guest in the room after checking out. The daily unauthorized occupancy fee is $175 for Single Student Housing, and will be applied to both the unauthorized individual and the student who allowed the individual use of the room. Occupying a room or residence without authorization, or allowing an unauthorized individual to use your room, may also result in withdrawal of current and/or future housing privileges.
Computer Connection/Clusters
You will have access to the computer cluster in your dorm, and an RCC will be available to assist with any computing questions. If you want to have an in-room network connection, go to the Residential Computing web site (http://rescomp.stanford.edu) and update/reactivate your previous registration, indicating your Sophomore College room. If your computer is not currently registered you should automatically be taken to the registration site when you plug in to the wall. You will receive a confirmation email when your request has been processed. Instructions for configuring your computer are available on the web should you need them. Please remember to update your in-room network registration once again just before you move into your fall residence, towards the end of SoCo. If you do not have fall on-campus housing, please then disconnect your registration at the ResComp website to free up connections for other residents.
Parking
Students who are bringing a car to campus need to get a Sophomore College Parking Pass.
Students who plan to purchase permits for SoCo and the academic year will need to show proof of the school-year housing assignment to obtain a full-year residence permit. For more information on purchasing parking permits, please go to http://transportation.stanford.edu.
You must purchase your academic year permits at Parking and Transportation Services by September 3rd or your vehicle will be cited.
Students who order their parking permit through the web can print their Web order confirmation, and this can be displayed in the dashboard of the driver’s side of their vehicle until you are notified by email that your permit is ready to be picked up.
Parking & Transportation Services is located at 340 Bonair Siding; Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Phone: 650-723-9362. Fax: 650-724-8676. E-mail: transportation@stanford.edu. You may pay with cash, check or credit card at the Parking & Transportation office.
