Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fellowship
Overview of Fellowship
For seniors and alumni of outstanding character and ability who intend to pursue graduate or professional school and hold promise for achievement and distinction in their chosen fields.

- Award
- Tuition costs plus a flat stipend or $18,000 to cover room, board and ordinary living expenses, as well as income taxes
- Renewable annually for two more years
Selection Criteria
Those who meet the following criteria have a stronger chance of being considered.
- Enrollment in in the humanities, social sciences or natural sciences. This includes law, medicine, engineering, architecture or other formal professional training and must be at an institution of higher learning located in the US.
- Demonstrated financial need
- Complete BA or BS by the time you begin post baccalaureate work
- US citizenship
- Non membership or nonsupport of the Communist Party
How to Apply
The following steps must be completed in order for an application to be fully considered:
- Register with UAR to participate in the campus competition
- Consult with Liebmann campus advisors regarding the content and writing of your application
- Complete application package consisting of:
- A completed and signed application
- A Statement of Purpose up to three pages long (double spaced) which considers the relationship between your graduate level study and your intended personal and/or professional goals
- A 10-15 line abstract at the top of your Statement of Purpose (included in the three pages) that explains (in layman’s terms) your degree program, giving emphasis to its eventual intellectual impact on your field of study
- Three letters of recommendation
- one from Dean of Graduate School or Dept Chair
- two from professors who have taught or worked closely with you
- Resume
- Official copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts (four unopened copies in total)
- Official copies of graduate exam test scores (if applicable)
- Financial Aid information from Stanford or other applicable source
- Copies of Federal Income Tax Returns for the prior two years (including spouse's, if applicable)
*If any of the documents above are not applicable, please include a statement that discusses why the item has been omitted in its place.
Submit complete application package to Undergraduate Advising and Research, 1st floor Sweet Hall.
Note: Late applications will NOT be accepted without prior approval
Selection Process
A committee of Stanford faculty and UAR staff will review applications and select three nominees to the Liebmann Scholarship Program. Applicants will be notified of the decision by January. The nominee will resubmit a final version of the application, working closely with UAR staff to finalize materials. The UAR office will send the final application to the Liebmann Scholarship Program by the January 22, 2010 national deadline.
