The Center for Relationship Abuse Awareness

What is relationship abuse?

  1. Relationship abuse is more than being hit by the person you are dating. It’s a pattern of control that develops gradually and can be physical, emotional, or sexual. It also includes isolation and monitoring.
  2. If you experience abuse, it is not your fault. No one asks for or deserves to be abused. People at Stanford can help you.
  3. Abuse is the perpetrator’s choice. It is not caused by alcohol, drugs, anger management or provocation.

For information about warning signs, how to help a friend, or other resources, please visit www.stoprelationshipabuse.org. If you want to talk to someone confidentially, call (1800) 799-SAFE. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 and/or notify your RD.
